Testosterone Levels Trending Lower Among Young U.S. Men — Is Low Testosterone Therapy The Answer?

Testosterone reduction is a normal part of aging. Aspire Rejuvenation has testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) treatments to help men and women when this becomes an issue. A great concern to us is a recent study presented at the 2020 American Urological Association Virtual Experience. This study shows that testosterone (T) levels are trending lower even in young adult and adolescent males in the United States. This is very concerning to all of us working in the area of male health.

Young Man

The study showed that previous indications of lower T on the aging US population is being compounded by other factors and is increasing in younger men. This removes the age factor in lower T, therefore other factors must be in play. The study found that these factors appear to include increasing younger age obesity or higher body mass index (BMI) related to increased fat levels, diet, lower activity levels, marijuana use, and environmental toxins.

The researchers expressed concern that these lower T levels in younger males will result not only in increasing cases of erectile dysfunction but that these levels can contribute over time to higher incidences of cancers related to lower testosterone. There is a stigma for younger men to admit they are experiencing a loss of libido or an increase in erectile dysfunction which will result in fewer young men seeking treatment for this condition before it becomes a major health issue.

Low-T has several effects on the human body for men and women, some that in time can become life-threatening:

  • Hair loss
  • Reduced bone density
  • Anemia
  • Loss of muscle mass and increased obesity in the abdomen (so-called belly fat)
  • Diminished sex drive
  • Sleep problems
  • Lack of concentration
  • Irritability and increasing chance of depression
